- Students Organized for Unity and Liberation (S.O.U.L) formed in the 1960s. S.O.U.L. was primarily a group of African American students from diverse backgrounds that worked to establish a more diverse and supportive environment for students of color at Carleton. S.O.U.L. was always open to any student that identified as a person of color. They published newsletters, brought speakers to campus, advocated for increased representation, called for greater levels of institutional support and hosted social events.
