Name: Noreen, Emma


Historical Note: Emma Noreen was born in c. 1905 and lived in Wadena, Minnesota before spending 25 years in China as a missionary and nurse. She worked with Dr. Percy T. Watson of the Carleton in China Program at Fenchow [Fenzhou] Hospital in the Shansi [Shanxi] province in the early 1930s. She was eventually forced to leave China in 1941 after the Japanese invasion and again in 1951 when the Communists rose to power. She then spent numerous years in the Phillapines, directing the education program at Silliman University Hospital and nursing at Brookenshire Hospital in Davao. Noreen spent 40 years as an international missionary before her retirement and death in c. 1980.
