Historical Note:

Patricia "Pat" Lamb worked in the Department of Physical Education at Carleton from 1962 - 1995. She is a 1956 graduate of the University of Minnesota with a bachelor of science degree and also earned the master of education degree there in 1962. Before coming to Carleton she taught at high schools in Pomona and Belmont, Calif., and at the University of Minnesota. Professor Lamb, Carleton's first Director of Women's Athletics from 1970-1985, was an influential leader in the early development of increased opportunities for women.

Eleanor (Ele) Hansen (1921 - 2013), was the chair of the Department of Physical Education for Women at Carleton from 1952 - 1986. While in this role, Hansen helped transform the women's physical education department at Carleton into a full-fledged athletics department, pushed for construction of the Cowling Recreation Center for women, helped promote Title IX before it became law in 1972, trained women's sports coaches from around the region and coached women's softball and cross country until her retirement.
